The course is on-demand, meaning you can start whenever you’re ready. There’s no start date, and you can move through the content at your own pace based on your schedule and goals.

You will receive progress emails starting from the time you first access or purchase the course however, you’re free to start the course whenever it suits you. While you’re welcome to complete the course multiple times, the email journey will only be sent during your first attempt.

This course is perfect if you’re curious about adding more plant-based foods to your diet but aren’t ready to commit fully to a whole food plant-based lifestyle. You’ll find flexible options that allow you to move at your own pace — whether you just want to dip your toes in or gradually shift towards a more plant-forward way of eating. We’ll guide you through the different approaches, from incorporating more plant-based meals to exploring vegan, plant-based, and whole food plant-based diets.

If you’re ready to jump straight into 100% whole food plant-based eating, you might find our Doctors Health Challenge a better fit.

The course offers a range of resources to access from the comfort of your home, in a time that suits you. These include video lessons, text lessons, downloads and demonstrations. If you have questions, you can contact our DFN team for assistance, or ask questions directly within the course.

DFN members will have lifetime access to the course materials for as long as they remain members after purchasing the course. Non-members will have access for 12 months from the date of purchase. Within these timeframes, you can revisit the content as often as you like, whenever it suits you.

Within the course, you’ll find links to various recipe websites to suit where you are on your plant-based journey, plus access to the DFN cookbook. We also share some favourite recipes from our course contributors, for you to download and keep.

More importantly, we teach you how to confidently plan your own meals, adapt your existing recipes, and even eat well without relying on recipes at all. These skills are key to helping you stick with your lifestyle changes long-term.

No special equipment is required. The recipes use common kitchen tools, and ingredients can be found at most grocery stores. We’ll guide you on pantry staples to keep on hand for easy meal prep.

Since the course doesn’t follow a set meal plan, adapting to your needs is easy. We link to a range of plant-based recipe websites, including options that cater to common allergens like gluten. All recipes shared are completely free from meat, dairy, and eggs.

We also teach you how to build your own plant-based meals and swap ingredients to suit your preferences or dietary needs, giving you plenty of flexibility.

This course is designed to help you transition towards a more plant-predominant diet at your own pace. Whether or not you experience weight loss will depend on the types of foods you choose. If you’re selecting more processed vegan options, these can be more calorie-dense and less supportive of weight loss. On the other hand, moving towards whole food plant-based options — which is the approach our facilitators follow themselves — tends to naturally support weight management thanks to the focus on nutrient-dense, lower-calorie foods.

Since this course doesn’t follow a set meal plan, you have the flexibility to adapt it to your personal goals. If you’re interested in a short-term challenge focused entirely on whole food plant-based eating (with no processed foods), you might prefer our DFN Health Challenge.

The DFN Health Challenge is a 4-week program (including a preparation week) designed for those ready to dive straight into fully whole food plant-based eating. It focuses exclusively on unprocessed, whole plant foods — the dietary pattern DFN advocates for as the gold standard for supporting optimal health and managing chronic conditions. If you’re looking for a focused, all-in challenge to experience this way of eating, the DFN Health Challenge is for you.

On the other hand, Make the Switch is an 8-week program designed for those who aren’t quite ready to commit to fully whole food plant-based eating and would prefer a gentler, step-by-step approach. It’s perfect if you want to gradually introduce more plant-based meals, learn how to incorporate “transition foods” (less ideal but still helpful stepping stones), and progress at your own pace — all while building skills and confidence to make sustainable changes.

You might choose to take the DFN Health Challenge down the track, after spending some time putting what you’ve learned in Make the Switch into action and feeling ready to explore fully whole food plant-based eating.
