Australian Dietary Guidelines
The review of the Australian Dietary Guidelines is underway. In March 2021, Doctors For Nutrition participated in an initial stakeholder scoping survey seeking input on how the current guidelines are used and suggestions for topics for consideration in the review. Read more about our submission. We also hosted an Independent Food Systems Dialogue as part of the United Nations Food Systems Summit. Joined by over 40 local and international experts we discussed on national dietary guidelines as a lever to attain a healthier, more sustainable and equitable food system, both in Australia and globally. The final scope will be finalised by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in Sepetmber 2022, confirming the considered and prioritised topics for inclusion in the review. More information from the NHMRC is available on their website.
Doctors For Nutrition is preparing to have involvement throughout the process, to champion the importance of whole food plant-based diets for the health of all Australians and to safeguard planetary health into the future.
The review process is open to everyone, whether as a health professional or on an individual basis to inform their eating, so is an excellent opportunity for our plant-based health community to share our views. We will be providing resources, research and tools to make it simple for our community to have their say. Watch this space!
